AI Legislation
U.S. Congressmen Jay Obernolte (R-Hesperia) and Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley) introduced H.R. 1718, the Artificial Intelligence for National Security Act, on March 28, to ensure better security of Department of Defense computer systems through AI enabled cybersecurity programs. This bill would empower the Department of Defense to begin procuring machine-learning enabled systems and equipment to combat cyberattacks on DoD networks and infrastructure. The bill is also improving procurement policies governing these systems upgrades. California computer manufacturing leads the country and thus California manufacturers have a role to play.
